Resolution payments under the Youpla Support Program

This grant opportunity is part of the Youpla Support Program, which was announced by the Australian Government on 8 February 2024 as its enduring resolution for people impacted by the collapse of the funeral insurance provider, the Youpla Group. The Youpla Group (formerly the Aboriginal Community Benefits Fund) was a funeral expenses insurer that primarily marketed its products to First Nations people. The Youpla Group entered liquidation in March 2022, leaving many people without cover, inflicting significant cultural, emotional and financial harm on many First Nations people and communities. The Youpla Support Program will provide a Resolution Payment to Eligible Persons to help them recover from this harm.  Subject to the exclusions set out in the Youpla Support Program Guidelines an Eligible Person will be offered as a Funeral Bond (delivered as a procurement) as the default option with the right to opt out and receive a Cash Payment (delivered as a grant). The Funeral Bond will be procured by NIAA on behalf of the Eligible Person. The Cash Payment will be made to the Eligible Person as a grant under the Youpla Support Guidelines.

Local Environmental Projects

The Local Environmental Projects program will run from 2025–26 to 2027–28 as part of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water's Outcome 2, supporting nature-positive conservation and sustainable management of Australia’s natural resources. Announced during the 2025 federal election, the program funds locally informed, place-based projects that protect and restore threatened species and habitats, enhance coasts and waterways, and improve community access to nature, especially in urban green and blue spaces. Projects must show long-term environmental and social benefits through sustainable management and local engagement, aligning with national goals under the EPBC Act and Australia’s Strategy for Nature 2024–2030. The program also supports Australia’s international commitments under the Convention on Biological Diversity. Participation by First Nations groups is encouraged, including sharing ecological knowledge. Projects promoting women’s workforce participation are also supported.

The Australian Government established the CDG Programme in 2013. The program will be delivered under Outcome 3: Strengthening the sustainability, capacity and diversity of our cities and regional economies including through facilitating local partnerships between all levels of government and local communities; through reforms that stimulate economic growth; and providing grants and financial assistance. The objective of the CDG Programme (program) is: to support needed infrastructure that promotes stable, secure and viable local and regional economies. Aged Care Services - Specialist Dementia Care Program

The Specialist Dementia Care Program (SDCP) is an Australian Government initiative that provides care for people exhibiting very severe behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia, who are unable to be appropriately cared for by mainstream aged care services.  The program offers specialised, transitional residential support, focussing on reducing or stabilising symptoms over time, with the aim of enabling people to move to less intensive care settings.  Under the SDCP, the intention is that there will be 35 SDCP units established, with a unit in each of the 31 Primary Health Network (PHN) regions. To date 10 SDCP units have been established nationally across 9 PHN regions as part of the Phase One Grant Opportunities. Indigenous Australians' Health Programme Northern Territory Pathways to Community Control

This grant opportunity enables the awarding of grants under the Pathways to Community Control (P2CC) program. The purpose of this grant opportunity is to support an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCHO) to transition health service delivery to Aboriginal community control under the P2CC Program and specifically targets ACCHOs in the Northern Territory. The grant supports the planning and implementation of the transition, which can include: development of corporate and clinical governance models and systems; development of a health plan for the region; community engagement and stakeholder consultation; Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs); required changes to the legal entity of the organisation and related governance structures; capacity building activities; and agreement of an evaluation strategy. Indigenous Advancement Strategy: Support for Community Sector Organisations Grant Opportunity Guidelines

As a part of the October 2022-23 Budget, the NIAA has been allocated $190 million over four years (2022-23 to 2025-26), to support Community Sector Organisations (CSOs) already receiving an Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS) grant for an eligible activity. The purpose of this funding is to support these organisations at need of funding supplementation due to additional staff wages pressures and high inflations rates. Funding amounts and the length of grant agreements available to each eligible CSO will be based on: §  the duration of existing IAS funding agreements for eligible grant activities §  a percentage of the current IAS funding granted to each eligible CSO for each eligible grant activity §  the location of service delivery for each eligible grant activity, noting that eligible grant activities delivered in remote and very remote areas may receive a higher percentage of supplementation funding The NIAA expects to conduct annual grant rounds under this grant opportunity to allow the NIAA to refresh its list of eligible organisations and eligible grant activities, and to reflect emerging economic circumstances in its funding calculations. The NIAA may conduct additional, smaller-scale rounds if these are required.

Local Investments Funding Grant Opportunity

2026 NHMRC-Swiss National Science Foundation

The 2026 NHMRC-Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) grant opportunity supports Australian participation in an international collaboration with Switzerland through the Australian - Swiss Joint Research Programme Call for Proposals 2026.  NHMRC is working with SNSF to support Joint Research Projects to promote collaborative projects with clearly defined goals, involving at least one partner based in Switzerland and one based in Australia. The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Mission aims to enable or support research designed to improve the lives of all Australians who experience a TBI. The objective of this grant opportunity is to provide grants of financial assistance to support medical research and medical innovation projects that: Stream 1 (Priority area 2.1, Targeted Call for Research): test the efficacy and complete a process evaluation of novel treatments, clinical indicators and/or interventions for moderate to severe TBI in reducing time spent in acute care and/or improving long-term patient outcomes.  Stream 2 (Priority area 2.3, Targeted Call for Research): conduct research to support effective national adoption and best practice use of clinical guidelines and protocols for mild TBI, including integration of prognostic and predictive approaches, and assessing and addressing barriers to implementation and inequalities including in all of: - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people - People affected by family, domestic and sexual violence - Older people - Rural, regional and remote populations in geographically diverse areas - Culturally and linguistically diverse populations The intended outcome of the research is to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians by: Stream 1: improving acute care and/or long term outcomes for moderate to severe TBI.  Stream 2: improving uptake of and access to best practice care for people with mild TBI.  Applicants to this grant opportunity must propose research that addresses one of the two Streams of research. Market Adjustment Program

The Market Adjustment Program grant opportunity builds on the Government’s existing Market Adjustment Program which supports residential aged care providers (providers) that are facing financial viability concerns by expanding that support to Support at Home providers. The program provides funding (including ‘critical failure’ funding) to avoid premature aged care provider closures and, in appropriate situations, to support orderly exits and service or provider consolidation. In addition, the program may also fund initiatives aimed at improving business capability (to reduce likelihood of deteriorating performance). Rural Financial Counselling Service Program 2027 to 2032

The Australian Government is inviting applications through an open process to apply to deliver services under 1.12 Rural Programs, Rural Financial Counselling Services from 2027 to 2032. This initiative provides free and independent financial counselling to eligible farmers, fishers, foresters and small-related enterprises who are experiencing, or at risk, of financial hardship. This program is ongoing and is subject to regular and open approaches to market. Funding rounds and approaches have been continually reviewed and adjusted over the years to improve the performance of the program and drive efficiencies to support structural adjustment in the agricultural sector in times of financial hardship. The objective of the program is to support structural adjustment through transitioning clients out of immediate financial crisis or concerns, assessing business viability to make informed decisions about the future of the business and improving financial wellbeing and resilience through building clients’ financial knowledge and skills, and by referring clients to other professional services. The ultimate outcome is financially capable agricultural, fishing and forestry businesses that are profitable, financially self-reliant and resilient. Grantees drive these changes through case management and effective and efficient client engagement. A key performance indicator for the program is that a minimum of 80% of clients receiving services are case-managed and on exiting the service have come to a better understanding of their financial position and have met their goals to make an informed decision outlined in the program outcomes and objectives listed in the program logic.

TCR: Serving and Ex-Serving Australian Defence Force Members Mental Health and Wellbeing 2026

In response to the Final Report of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide, the Australian Government has committed $10 million through the NHMRC to support high-quality research into the health and wellbeing of serving and ex-serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) members. This TCR aims to generate high-quality evidence and develop practical, implementable actions to improve mental and physical health and promote wellbeing among serving and ex-serving ADF members, with consideration given to the impact on their support networks, including family, dependants and carers. The objectives of this TCR are to facilitate research that: •            Focuses on translation and implementation, with actions and methods that can be adopted by mainstream community health services. •            Targets prevention and early intervention strategies that improve long-term health outcomes and builds the evidence base for scalable and implementable programs and/or strategies that aim to improve holistic and functional outcomes throughout the patient journey. •            Promotes collaborative and multidisciplinary research approaches that recognise the complex and intersecting physical and mental health needs of serving and ex-serving ADF members, and ways to improve these through prevention and early intervention. The expected outcomes of this TCR are to: •            Support the development and implementation of programs, policies and activities that prevent suicidality, suicidal distress and acute mental health crises among serving and ex-serving ADF members, while optimising treatment, and improving equitable access to care services. •            Address the intersection of complex mental and physical health conditions and the needs of serving and ex-serving ADF members through collaborative and multidisciplinary approaches to care.

Ideas Grants 2026

The objective of the Ideas Grant scheme is to support innovative research projects addressing  specific question(s).  The expected outcomes are:  • innovative and creative research   • funding of researchers at all career stages  • funding any area of health and medical research from discovery to implementation.  It is expected that the CIA will have the capability to lead the team in achieving the project aims.  Only applications that address the intended objective and outcomes will be competitive for funding. The Ideas Grant scheme is not intended to support research where a clinical trial or cohort study is the primary objective, and applications meeting that description should be submitted to the Clinical Trial and Cohort Studies Grant scheme. Where applications have elements consistent with both the Clinical Trials and Cohort Studies Grant scheme and the Ideas Grant scheme, applicants should decide where the project is predominantly suited, based on the objectives and intended outcomes of the respective schemes and where the application would receive the most appropriate peer review.  Applicants should also anticipate a high level of interest in this grant opportunity, and it is expected to be highly competitive. Carbon Capture Technologies Program – Round 2

The Carbon Capture Technologies Program aims to accelerate the research, development and demonstration of novel and emerging carbon management technologies to address Australia’s hard-to-abate emissions and residual emissions. Grants will be offered to pilot and demonstration projects that capture, utilise and remove CO2 and have the potential to create new, low-emissions or net-zero industries. Examples of eligible technologies, include but are not limited to: novel or emerging carbon capture and/or utilisation for hard-to-abate sectors novel or emerging carbon removal technologies such as direct air capture enhanced rock weathering biomass carbon removal and storage, including durable sequestration of carbon in biochar mineral carbonation technology, such as capturing carbon in building and other materials. Conventional and land-based approaches that leverage natural biological systems, without technological intervention, are not eligible. This includes: afforestation/reforestation, peatland or wetland restoration agroforestry are excluded from this program. The objectives of the program are to: accelerate the development of emerging priority CO2 capture, utilisation, and removal technologies support research, development and demonstration to advance technological and commercial readiness of novel or emerging carbon capture, utilisation and removal technologies in hard-to-abate industries such as cement, chemicals and steel demonstrate verifiable permanence of CO2 sequestered via a range of utilisation applications support capability development in novel or emerging carbon removal technologies.
