Defence Industry Development Grants Program - Skilling Stream

Overview

The Defence Industry Development Grants Program (the program) will award grants over four years from 2024-25 to 2027-28. The program was announced as part of the Defence Industry Development Strategy. The objective of the program is to build the industrial base Australia needs to achieve Defence outcomes in areas of strategic priority. The Defence Industry Development Grants Program funds four distinct grant opportunity streams tailored to address the program outcomes: Sovereign Industrial Priorities Skilling Exports Security. The Skilling stream helps Australian defence industry to upskill and train in priority trade, technical and professional skillsets to develop a workforce with the right mix of qualified and experienced personnel to meet Defence requirements. The program will enhance the capacity and capability of Australian defence industry workforce to deliver Sovereign Defence Industrial Priorities described in the Defence Industry Development Strategy.

Eligibility Criteria

Entity Type
An entity, incorporated in Australia; a company limited by guarantee; or an incorporated trustee on behalf of a trust.
SME or DIA
Must be an SME with less than 200 employees or a Defence Industry Association (DIA).
GST Registration
Must be registered for Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Australian Financial Institution
Must have an account with an Australian financial institution.
Non-Income-Tax Exempt
Must be non-income-tax exempt.
Project Location
Project must be undertaken in Australia.
Eligible Activities
Project must include eligible activities as outlined in the grant opportunity guidelines.
Defence Skills Capacity
Project must aim to increase Defence related technical skills capacity or capability within an eligible SME.
Training Provider
Project must be delivered by a registered training organisation (RTO), a tertiary education provider, a professional training provider, an appropriately qualified employee, or an original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
Expenditure
Project must include at least $10,000 in eligible expenditure.
Project Costs
Must be able to meet share of project costs including all eligible and ineligible expenditure not covered by the grant funding.
Accountant Declaration
If funding is over $50,000, must provide an accountant declaration confirming ability to fund share of project costs.
Previous Funding
Must not have received $250,000 of Skilling Stream grant funding within a three-year period.
