2026-2029 Indigenous Employment Initiative

The purpose of the Indigenous Employment Initiative (IEI) is to create entry level employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who will support the provision of culturally safe, trauma aware, and healing informed aged care to older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through a suitably skilled workforce.   The objectives are to: • ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are provided employment and training opportunities in their communities in entry level, non-clinical aged care positions  • provide culturally safe training programs to develop an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce that will provide high quality services and meet community needs  • provide culturally safe, trauma aware, and healing informed aged care to older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on country and/or close to home  • improve the quality and access to aged care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people  • support the expansion of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce across Australia  • provide consistent and stable funding and certainty for organisations in receipt of grant funding, and  • contribute to the Australian Government’s Closing the Gap targets by employing and training Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in entry level aged care positions in their communities.  To view the grant opportunity documents, please select the red "Grant Opportunity Documents" button on the left-hand side.
