The purpose of the Advancing Australia’s National Interests in Antarctica grant opportunity is to support the Australian Centre for Excellence in Antarctic Science (ACEAS) for two years to finalise and deliver data sets and publication outputs from field operations previously funded under the ARC Special Research Initiative in Excellence in Antarctic Science.   The objectives of the grant are to: advance Australia’s national interests in Antarctica through delivery of priority science secure Antarctic science capability and the next generation of researchers strengthen collaboration across the Australian Antarctic science community and with DCCEEW enhance Australia’s leadership and excellence in Antarctic science. The intended outcomes of the grant are: advancement of Australia’s national interests in Antarctica through delivery of the Australian Antarctic Science Decadal Strategy employment of, and funding certainty for, experts, students and early career researchers to strengthen Antarctic science capability in Australia demonstrated leadership of Australia in Antarctic science by continuing collaboration through ACEAS across participating universities published peer-reviewed manuscripts, lodgement of datasets with the Australian Antarctic Data Centre, and communication of key outcomes, particularly from the Denman Glacier terrestrial and marine campaigns and science supported by the Australian Antarctic Program.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Eligible Applicant
    The University of Tasmania is the sole applicant, acting on behalf of the ACEAS consortium, with provisions for subcontracting to partner organizations.
  • Board Support
    Evidence from the board (or CEO) that the project is supported and that the applicant can meet project costs not covered by grant funding is required.
  • Data Sharing
    The applicant must agree to make research data and reports publicly available and provide them to the Australian Government and any nominated third party.
  • ACEAS Consortium
    The applicant must declare they will run the project on behalf of the ACEAS consortium, as reflected in existing agreements.
  • Mandatory Attachments
    All mandatory attachments must be provided with the application.
